The Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival of Festivals 2009
Despite attempts by the city government to prevent the festival from being staged, eleven Pintados tribes, eight Kasadyaan contingents, five mardigras groups and more merrymakers participated in the Grand Parade of the Leyte Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival of Festivals held June 27, 2009.
It was the 14th year of the joint celebration of the Kasadyaan Festival and the 23rd year for the Pintados Festival which is the oldest festival in Region 8. Now known as the Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival of Festivals, it used to be celebrated every 29th of June, the Vesper’s Day of the Feast of the Senor Santo Nino de Leyte, until last year when with the coming in of a new mayor, the Festival was relegated to June 27 in favor of a new festival, Sangyaw, organized by the mayor and his wife.
The grand parade around the city’s major thoroughfares started at 9AM and ended at 5PM at the Leyte Sports Development Center.
Declared champion for this year was the Pasaka Festival of Tanauan, followed by the Karatong Festival of Dulag, and third was the Batobalani Festival of Bato.

Nice pix ^_^
Question, what happened to the old pintados festival where merrymakers were covered in paint & were painting everyone?
Hi Gerry… great pics as usual! I miss being home for the Tacloban fiesta, but next year I will try my best to be there! Mauli ako in July and will definitely visit Calle Z!
Superb photography!
It would have been a real birthday treat for me had I gone Tacloban last Saturday!
catherine – there are still the merrymakers group that join the parade however, I believe they can no longer paint just everyone. I think you have to ask permission now or something. I remember those days..fun, painful afterwards but fun nonetheless.
I am glad that despite some attempts of people to dampen the mood, the festival was a success and went as planned.
Wow 22 years of the Pintados Festival. It has come a long way
Oh thanks Mano Gerry for sharing the pics =)
i just want to correct something – pintados festival is on its 24th year this year.
I stand corrected, but I believe it’s not the 24th; it’s the 23rd since last year’s was the 22nd. PIA’s press release put an erroneous figure of 22nd.
Thanks very much Man Gerry! Nakaharani gihapon ako ha grandstand presentations!
Waray na lugod ak makapamatron, apurado man gad an akon pagbisita hehehe damo pa iton himuon, next time ma-ulpot na la ak ngada ha Calle Z, bangin man la makabisita utro ha iyo lugar.
Awwwww no more of those painting things? LOL guess it’s been a while since I’ve been there. 14 yrs to be exact! DAMN That was super fun!!!!!!!!
