Hello World!
Welcome to the gerryruiz photoblog – or the continuing saga of my efforts to continue learning about photography and web publication (like I said, a site doomed to be never fully constructed – for evolution seems to be inevitable in life…)
Built along the concept of paying it forward, I hope I’d be able to contribute, thru the blog, my own humble experience in the field of photography and share it with other photo beginners and enthusiasts.
It is also a my-own-little-way effort to help promote my homeland and hopefully help develop tourism activity in our area.
One big factor why blogging has become so popular (a key one for those wanting to have their own website) is the convenience being provided by blogging programs and sites such as wordpress, also, by the numerous social networks such as Facebook, multiply, etc. – you don’t have to learn complex technical stuff (html, scripts, etc.) to get it running in the web.
I do hope you’d enjoy your visit to my blog, much as I enjoy creating and maintaining it.
Godbless you all!
gerry dolina ruiz
P.S. Please feel free to leave comments in any of the posts. I would highly appreciate them. Thanks!
P.S.S.
Here are my favorite quotes:
“This is the true joy in life…being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one…being a force of Nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy…I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can. I want to be used up when I die. For the harder I work the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no brief candle to me. It’s a sort of splendid torch which I’ve got to hold up for the moment and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.” – George Bernard Shaw
“The best part of having a hobby like photography is never running out of things to learn. Inspiration is all around you. Look at everything with the eyes of a photographer and you’ll see opportunities you never noticed before.” – Digital Photography School
Great shots!

Hi William,
Thanks for dropping by and thanks for sharing with the ATASC your “An Surat Ko Kan Leyte.” My email address is gerry-at-callezaragosa-dot-com (I’m writing it this way to avoid being picked up by spam bots searching for email addresses. Just replace “at” with “@” and “dot” with “.” )

Hi Gerry, you are doing a very good job promoting our ancestral land all over the world. I am a global Pinoy based in Cleveland, Ohio USA. I came here when I was 13, but I never forgot were I came from. I grew up partly in Dulag, Leyte and Manila. I can still speak Waray because my father made sure we spoke it inside the house. He loved Leyte so much that he founded our own Santa Cruzan (it is the biggest pinoy gathering here) and Dulag Fiesta celebration. His favorite song was “An Eroy nga Tuna.” I am older now and my kids, nephews and nieces want to see their ancestral land.
By the way, do you know when they are going to have the Bikini Open in Dulag, Leyte because my teenage nephews want me to video-shoot it? Please reply if you know the date, location and time – you are my only lifeline there on this matter. I am going there Sept. 6, 2008.
Thank you and keep up the good work. Maupay it imo in hihimo para ha kalibutan.

Hi Sonny! I am glad you like the site. 🙂 Feedback from folks like you are always a rich source for encouragement. Food for the soul.
Re Dulag fiesta activities, I am afraid I have no details about it. But since you’ll be here on Sept 6, I’m sure it wouldn’t be hard for you to get the details by then.
By the way, I had a dormmate before at Molave Residence Hall in UP Diliman. His name was Jess Lagunzad from Dulag, too. Any relations? 😉

Hi, Gerry, sorry I’m replying almost two years later, but I went to the Dulag fiesta – it was great! I shot a lot of videos; I will show them on you tube soon. I don’t know Jess, but I am sure he is a relative because the Lagunzad name started in Dulag from Spain. I was told that a Spanish Friar fell in love with one of the exotic island girls and spread the gospel: go to the world and multiply.
By the way my nephew, Joseph Boustani was in the Cosmopolitan Philippines Hunk centerfold contest representing the entire Leyte; he was the leading most of the way. He even made it to the GMA’s Take Me Out show this month and was picked by a very nice lady out of thirty men. Like me he is a Global Pinoy, but he is totally dakung America, pero ada hiya dida para masabtan gud niya it iya pag ka pilipino.
jess, but I am sore he is a relative of mine because all the Lagunzad in the Phillippines originated in Dulag
