Here’s my unusual take of the famous landing memorial of Gen. Douglas MacArthur and the Liberation Forces at Palo, Leyte, Philippines.
A friend quipped, “You must have practiced a LOT throwing the camera up on timer mode!” lol

This is I think the first I’ve ever seen of the memorial taken from this angle. I don’t know how you did it but it looks great!

Hi Jerome! The photo is an aerial shot, taken from a hovering chopper. 🙂

Sir,
I love the website and the photographs of the memorial.
Do you know when the MacArthur Memorial was completed? I visited in 2004 but I could not find a date of completion.
Best,
John

Hi John,
I thought it was going to be an easy answer but alas, after asking local tourism guys, nobody seems to know the date when the memorial was completed. All I got was that the landing memorial national park was constructed in the early 70’s during the Marcos era. During the 50th Anniversary of the Leyte Landing (1994), a Rock Garden of Peace was constructed within the park.
It seems this item on the exact date of completion of the park is mired in controversy – not unlike the life of the American general himself.

Mr Ruiz,
Thanks for asking around. I read somewhere that the actual statues were built in 1994 to commemorate the 50th anniversary. I do remember watching Pres. Ramos on TV wading next to the statues!
Best,
John

Unusual perspective indeed. It was professionally done. What I have are frontal views. Thanks for sharing.

A photo from the back, what an idea. When you have a beach wedding a lot of the shots are from the back Thanks

For those unfamiliar with the MacArthur Landing Memorial Park layout, rarely can one take this picture from the back or from this angle unless you were airborne, for down below you is already water.

Dear Sir Gerry,
Trivia on the memorial site and others: In 1973, MacArthur Park was established, architectural design of Rock garden of Peace by Renato L. Punzalan. 1994 sculpture bigger than life size of MacArthur is by Leandro Locsin. Sculpture displayed at MacArthur Hotel front office is by Juan C. Flores or Apung Juan known to art patrons from Betis Pampanga.
Got it from Ms. Vicky Lanting.

kailan po nabuilt ang MacArthur Park?
jeff said this on 17 October 2008 at 9:19 PM |
Thanks Jeff for visiting the site. I am unable to find the correct date of its construction but the MacArthur Landing Memorial National Park as it looks today – with the larger than life statues of Gen. MacArthur and party – was constructed most likely a few years before its 50th commemoration ceremonies on Oct. 20, 1994. Around the early 90’s. The park has always been there as far as I can remember.

Sir, do you have any idea about the seawall in MacArthur Park? About the contractor or the designer? 🙂
Butch Realino said this on 6 October 2011 at 4:16 PM |
Sorry, but I have no idea at all on that although some info can be gleaned from the park’s memorial headstone. 😉
